Often while spectating at large international competitions such as the Washington International Horse Show (October 24-30 at Prince George’s Equestrian Center, Upper Marlboro) and the Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill (October 13-16 at Fair Hill Special Events Zone, Fair Hill), one can be so impressed with watching the elite horses and riders that it is easy to forget there is a crew of equally elite officials working behind the scenes to make sure the competition runs smoothly.
