Key Team with Coach

Meet the Coach

Thank you, ahead of time, for making me a part of your Key School community. Over the past 5 years I have gotten to learn a lot about Key, met some really great students and parents, and I am thrilled to do what I can do to help provide learning and growing opportunities for the students at Key. I grew up in the saddle, quite literally, riding my first horse when I was 6 weeks old. I won my first show at the age of 2. I knew from an early age that I wanted to spend my entire life with my passion, my horses, and there has been no looking back. I am excited to get to share some of my knowledge and experiences with the Key School Equestrian Team, and I am looking forward to another fun and successful season. We are building quite the riding program at Key, complete with Champion and Reserve Champion School titles at nearly every competition, as well as for the entire year! I am really looking forward to having some great riders do some great things this year!

I have lived essentially my entire life in Maryland, just south of the Annapolis area in the little town of Harwood. I went to high school at St. Mary's, in downtown Annapolis, graduated with almost a 5.0, and a member of the National Honors Society. I was very involved in the student government association and enjoyed playing on our nationally ranked Varsity women's lacrosse team. Knowing, however, that there is no professional women's lacrosse, I opted to go to college on an academic scholarship to St. Mary's College of Maryland, the #1 rated public honors college in the country. SMC is a beautiful college, located in historic St. Mary's City, and I vowed that I would take my first year off from horses and see what it was that I really wanted to do, discover what was out there that I might have been missing. That barely lasted a semester! Some good owners and some great class scheduling and I managed to juggle horses and college, riding on an NAYRC (Junior Olympic) team at the same time as graduating as my class Valedictorian and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. I feel strongly that you are able to achieve anything you are willing to work passionately towards.

I am a self-professed over achiever in everything that I do, and I certainly hope that this is contagious! Even though I am based out of Davidsonville, MD for most of the year, I actively compete in the international levels of the Olympic sport of Eventing, with my eyes set on the 2016 Games. I encourage you to peruse more of my website, to learn more about who I am, my philosophy on teaching and training, and to get a general feel for how I communicate with horses and riders. I travel all over the country for competitions, and this gives me a base of knowledge and a range of experiences unequalled in our area. I train with some of the most respected professionals in the world, and I am eager to share this knowedlge with the Key Team, and hope to serve as a positive role model for each and every student. Dreams do come true; but you can't sit around and wait for them. Luckily, I don't sit still very well and I am looking forward to all of you joining me this time around!
