USEA Article

As a rider, I am fortunate enough to train with two of the most influential and well-respected 'O' judges of our times, Linda Zang and Marilyn Payne. I can't count the number of times I have returned from a competition only to anxiously hand over to them my dressage tests! I rely on them for everything, from lessons and training tips to their input on horses to buy. I wanted an opportunity to give my students that same experience. And let's face it, I am opinionated! I would sometimes disagree with the marks on my own tests, or be the first one to question a question out on cross country. Rather than just complain, I challenged myself to do something about it! And so I began the pursuit of my eventing judges licenses.

In 2010 I received my 'r' Event Judge's license which enabled me to be President of the Ground Jury thru Preliminary. In 2016 I received my 'R' Event Judge's license which enabled me to be President of the Ground Jury thru CCI**s. Judging has enabled me to be a part of some of the biggest events in the United States, all from a different perspective! I also feel strongly that I am much more educated as a rider, trainer, and instructor after having received the training and education required to attain my Event Judge's licenses. I can assess dressage tests, show jumping courses, and cross country tracks and questions from many different perspectives, which gives my horses and my riders a definite advantage! And as an active rider, I work very hard when officiating to make sure that a level playing field is maintained for all of the divisions, and at all times I try to do what is in the best interest of the rider. That being said, a hot tip for any rider reading this page of my website....it is your responsibility to know the rules!!
